Four teams of Fellows-In-Training competed in a spirited FIT Jeopardy Contest at the Midwest Cardiovascular Forum Oct. 27-28 in Minneapolis. Teams were from the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa (seated left), Mayo Clinic (seated right), University of Minnesota Medical School (standing center), University of South Dakota (standing upper left). The team from the Mayo Clinic finished with the most points in a very close contest. Teams included three members. The team from South Dakota was reduced to a single participant after one participant became ill and a second participant hit a deer on the trip to the event.

A total of 34 posters were submitted by Fellows-In-Training from institutions in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota.

Course Directors


The course directors of the Midwest Cardiovascular Forum served as judges of the FIT Poster Contest. Shown left to right: Randy Stark, Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids; Jeremy Thaden, Mayo Clinic, Prabhjot Nijjar, University of Minnesota Medical School; Mario Gössl, Minneapolis Heart Institute, Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Stark also serves as Governor of the Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.

Fellows-In-Training from Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota submitted a total of 34 posters for judging at the annual Midwest Cardiovascular Forum Oct. 27-28 in Minneapolis. Posters were judged by the Forum’s Course Directors – Randy Stark, Jeremy Thaden, Prabhjot Nijjar, and Mario Gössl. Cash prizes awarded were $500 for first place; $250 for second place; and $100 for third place.

The winning entries were:

  • First Place: Anthony Kashou, Mayo Clinic. A Novel Means to Successfully Differentiate Wide-Complex Tachycardias Using Derived Vectorcardiogram Signals.
  • Second Place: Jeremy Van’t Hof, University of Minnesota. Geographic Variation in Peripheral Artery Disease and Major Adverse Cardiovascular and Limb Events Among Medicare Beneficiaries.
  • Third Place: Vidhu Anand, Mayo Clinic. Incidence, mechanisms and predictors of Elevated Gradients after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement.
